In the past, large scale shipyards in Korea and Japan have exclusively constructed large LNG carriers of above 120,000cbm in size. In addition to traditional LNG market in need of these kinds of large LNG carriers, there is a growing demand in small LNG carriers which mainly supply LNG for fuel to the gas power plants established in the islands.
During the era of high oil prices, many island nations in Asia played a leading role in pushing to build gas power plants.
